Die struck, brass badge with regimental number, '13', within a garter bearing the motto 'Viret in aeternum' (It Flourishes Forever), on a rayed star, surmounted by a crown.
After the Crimean War (1854-1856) the shako was simplified and much smaller, with other ranks wearing this easily produced shako plate. The shako was replaced by a busby introduced in 1861, when the Regiment was styled as a hussar
