The Eighth Air Force ("Mighty Eighth") is a numbered air force of the United States Air Force, famously established in January 1942 as the primary US Army Air Forces combat force in the European Theatre. It led daylight strategic bombing against Nazi Germany, becoming the largest air armada in WWII before transitioning to nuclear deterrence in the Cold War.
