Grenadier-Ausbildungs-Bataillon (motorisiert) 15
The battalion was established on August 26, 1939, in Kassel, in Wehrkreis IX. The 15th Motorized Infantry Replacement Battalion was subordinate to Division 159. The battalion replaced the 29th Infantry Division. From January 10, 1940, the 15th Motorized Infantry Replacement Battalion was subordinate to Division 179. The battalion was then divided on October 1, 1942, into the 15th Motorized Infantry Replacement Battalion and the 15th Motorized Infantry Training Battalion. Both battalions were renamed the 15th Motorized Grenadier Replacement Battalion and the 15th Motorized Grenadier Training Battalion, respectively, on November 7, 1942. On April 10, 1943, both battalions were combined to form the 15th Motorized Grenadier Replacement and Training Battalion. On August 1, 1943, the battalion was divided again, this time into the 15th Motorized Grenadier Replacement Battalion and the 15th Motorized Reserve Grenadier Battalion. From August 1, 1943, the replacement battalion was subordinate to the Commander of Panzertruppen IX. After its formation, the reserve battalion was relocated to France, where it was subordinate to the 179th Reserve Panzer Division. On March 31, 1944, the replacement battalion was disbanded. On May 15, 1944, the reserve battalion was used to reorganize the 16th Panzer-Grenadier Division into the 116th Panzer Division and was thus disbanded.
The 16th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Reichsführer-SS" A Kampfgruppe of the 16th Training and Replacement Battalion was based in Arnhem and took part in Operation Market Garden. The division surrendered to British forces near Klagenfurt, Austria, at the end of the war.
